2) Are you accepting new patients?
Yes, we are currently accepting new patients, and eagerly anticipating meeting you and your family.

3) Do I need to transfer my former eye exam records before I get a new exam?
If you suffer from any medical condition that poses risk to the health of your eyes, such as diabetes or glaucoma, it is recommended that your former eye exam records be transferred to our office prior to your exam. It may be required that you request your exam records in writing. If you have no medical condition that poses risk to your eyes a transfer of records is not necessary.

4.) Should I wear my current contacts or glasses to my examination?
Yes, we recommend that you wear, or at least bring with you, your current vision correction. Existing glasses or contacts lenses are frequently used in determining your current visual status.

5) How soon can I get an eye exam and do I need an appointment?
Dr. Lenahan knows everyone has a busy schedule and he makes every attempt to see patients as the patients' schedule allows. Evening and weekend (including Sunday) appointments are available. Patients can be seen usually within (1) one to (2) two days for a full eye examination. Appointments are recommended. Please call today for your appointment.

6) How often should I get an eye exam?
An eye exam is more than a checkup for glasses. A comprehensive eye examination is an important part of your general health care. Regular eye examinations are an important asset in detection of any underlying health care problems, as well as maintaining your best possible vision. Dr. Lenahan recommends a full eye examination annually. Some people may be advised to return more frequently if there is a family history of - or incidents of - eye diseases.

7) How old should you be for your first eye exam?

An eye examination is a sensible part of any routine family health care. An eye examination should be completed upon a child as soon as any vision difficulties are noticed. It is generally recommended that all children should have their first complete eye examination by an optometrist by the age of (3) three. Common problems include lazy eye, crossed eye, farsightedness, nearsightedness, astigmatism, and color deficiencies. Many of these visual problems are best managed when detected and treated early.

8) How long is my glasses/contact prescription good for?
Prescription for glasses and contacts are typically valid for (1) year, however every patient is different and may require more frequent review of their prescriptions.

9) What do I do with my prescription?
Dr. Lenahan and Associates release both glasses and contact prescriptions to the patient. There are many different methods and choices for purchasing glasses and contact lenses. Therefore, by releasing the glasses and contact lenses information to the patient, the patient determines which optical they wish to utilize. Dr. Lenahan and associates are independent optometrists and are not associated with any optical.

10) Am I a candidate for laser surgery?
Patients have varied visual demands related to their occupations and hobbies. Our doctors will discuss all options, including laser corrective surgery, available to each patient based on their lifestyle and needs. It is our goal to make sure you have a full understanding of the benefits and risks of laser surgery. All our doctors are fully trained laser surgery co-management, and we provide refractive surgery referral service. We look forward to discussing your individual candidacy for laser corrective surgery.

11) Can I wear contacts for cosmetic reasons?
No longer are contact lenses for just vision correction, but they have become a statement of expressing yourself. Even if your vision is perfect contact lenses can be prescribed for most people. Whether you are wanting to enhance the color of your eyes, a dramatic color change or, the fun of WILD EYES there are many different contact lenses available for those with perfect vision, as well as those with who need vision correction. Our doctors would be pleased to discuss the suitability of cosmetic contacts for you.

12) Will I be dilated at my eye examination?
Patients are not automatically dilated with each examination. Dr. Lenahan and Associates only dilate patients if it is determined to be necessary based on the patient's family history, symptoms, and findings during the initial evaluation. In most cases, if it is determined that the patient needs to be dilated to further determine the ocular health of the eyes, the dilation can be performed at the initial examination. It is highly recommended that the patient have someone to drive them following the dilation, since vision can be temporarily blurred. If the patient does not have a driver at the examination or if it is not convenient for the patient to have the dilation performed at the initial examination, the office staff would be more than happy to schedule a dilation appointment at a more accommodating time.
